Our Movies of 2019 inc. Avengers: Endgame, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Wild Rose & more! | #NOTwatching

by

We know it's a bit late, but there were a number of things from 2019 that we needed to get to before we put together our end-of-the-year lists, so this week, we're talking about our favourite movies of 2019, a few things we still haven't got round to yet and then a few things we're looking forward to in 2020. We'll be back in a few weeks to do more or less the same thing for TV, by which time you'll no doubt be stuck underneath a pile of new stuff, such is the relentless volume of content we have to deal with these days. Oh and Happy New Year, if that's still an appropriate greeting this far into it?

Blah with.....Jennie Lawson from Mimosa Beauty | Blah Blah Land Podcast S1 03

by

Blah with.....Jennie Lawson from Mimosa Beauty| Blah Blah Land Podcast S1 03

In this Episode of BLAH BLAH LAND I was so excited to sit down and chat to someone who I have wanted to chat to for a while now. Jennie Lawson is the owner of "Mimosa Beauty" in Chelmsford, Essex and she has built her beauty salon from the ground up to be regarded as one of the most innovative brands in the beauty industry. Jennie, and her colleagues, have worked tirelessly to run a ECO - INNOVATION focused salon, where sustainability and the environment are huge factors and driving forces behind the success. A few ways they do this are....

- Buying British to cut down on their carbon footprint
- Being 100% landfill free
- Eco friendly washing and also an Eco-Friendly building.

You can, and should, check out their website Mimosa Beauty

"The truth is, we believe that every single person is beautiful, and it’s our deepest joy to help people see themselves like we see them: gorgeous, inside and out." - A Quote taken from their website.

I sat down and spoke to Jennie and I must admit, she did not disappoint. Her open, raw and honest nature to her life and business is refreshing in this day and age. There is a sense of authenticity with her and I sat back and listened to every single word she dropped. She spent the majority of the chat feeling like I was learning and being educated on a world I feel guilty for not paying too much attention to. This podcast was very much an eye opener for me.

Also, as we discuss in the podcast, Jennie has created an online sanctuary to help inspire and motivate people to enhance and embrace their own beauty and learn more self care. Check out the website and join! There is so much to take from this chat. An Online sanctuary is a perfect haven for those looking for some guidance.

The subjects we touch upon, highlight where I envision the podcast to go moving forward. It is a relaxed discussion with opinions that might not always be shared between listeners but valid none the less. I want to maintain open and honest conversations where everyone involved feels a part of it and included.

Bringing on the Blah | Blah Blah Land Podcast

by

What is Bring on the Blah anyway?

I remember about 8 years ago, I started the whole #NOTlistening world (well the ODDcast PODcast world as it started) as a place to podcast and "be funny" with my mates. I started it all as a way to drink beer and chat "shit" whilst being ultra edgy.........Something I regret listening back to some of the stuff that we tried to discuss. All this was done during my late 20's and during a time when I wasn't exactly in the greatest of headspaces as it was. I was struggling with my mental health and I didn't even realise.

The Podcast actually helped me, to a point, where I was able to spend time with my friends and meet new people, but it also led to a deeper issue where I became pressured to deliver, to be funny and to create something that wouldn't get badly critiqued.......It did! quite a few times and I don't blame them to be fair.
Anyway, Along with the who #NOTlistening world, which has blossomed and found it's voice over the years, I tired my hand at blogging and trying to be edgy and controversial with that.......again some of the stuff I wrote I look back and "sigh" and also it led me down a path that opened me up to a perception I wasn't happy with..........I am blabbing right now, I will get to the point of this post soon, trust me.

So after several years of growth and self - development I started to find my feet again and where I wanted to go with any of my creative endeavours. During my podcasting days I managed to interview and talk to some bloody interesting people, people that I enjoyed talking to and hearing what they had to say! This was something I wanted to do more of.
So in 2019 I came up with the idea of a podcast that wasn't for the "laughs" it was a passion project for me to sit down and chat with people I find interesting. People I look up to. People that I believe to empower and inspire people. I wanted to do a podcast where I felt the positivity and happiness from their life and attitude. I created the Podcast "Blah Blah Land"

The Podcast is still new and very raw, but 2020 I have more ideas and people lined up to chat to. These people don't have to be big name celebs, these are every day people living their best life. These people have something to say and if it can reach a small handful of people then I am extremely happy with that.
This Podcast wasn't created as a ratings, hits and downloads winner. if that happened, bonus, but I didn't want to fall back into the pressure of trying to be a podcast that fought for listeners. This was my passion project that I can do "my thing" and indulge in others happiness.

So, If you want to support and check out the shows far please take a look here

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker & The Mandalorian | #NOTwatching

by

After an explosive resurrection with the Force Awakens and a thoughtful follow-up in the Last Jedi, the finale to this new trilogy was never going to be an easy task. And so Rise of Skywalker has so far been the most divisive Star Wars movie ever. Listen on for our thoughts on this finale to this most holy trilogy of trilogies, not to mention a quick time jump to next March when we are enjoying The Mandalorian on Disney+. The force is strong in this one... etc... :)

The Boys, Dark Crystal, Warrior, Mindhunter & more! | #NOTwatching

by

We're really deep into the peak TV season right now, so what better time to remind you of all the things you might have missed from the end of summer. So we're talking Amazon's The Boys and the latest season of Goliath, Netflix's resurrection of The Dark Crystal and the latest season of Mindhunter. We also say goodbye to the long running Orange is the New Black and wonder what happened to the same creator's female wrestling drama, Glow.

Who is Tom Hamm? (TV Catch Up Chat) | #NOTlistening Podcast

by
Listen to "Who is Tom Hamm? (TV Catch Up Chat) | #NOTlistening" on Spreaker.

Who is Tom Hamm?
Ever sat down and spoken to friends about a TV show or Film and you just can't remember the name of the Actor in it? Well this isn't a problem for Ash who just makes up a name and owns it.
So, Back again for more nonsense behind the mics. Adam, Will and Ash try and cram in 20 odd minutes all the Netflix and Amazon Prime shows they have binged.
Obviously no spoilers, because the problem with binge watching is you forget half of what you've watched anyway.

The trio cover there views and thoughts on shows such as
-The Umbrella Academy
- Good Omens
- The Good Place

- The Boys
and more......Kind of.......

It's a TV chat..........just like all those other podcasts that do copious amounts of research and in depth analysis of said shows.......only #NOT!

It's a clown special this episode, with Todd Phillip's Taxi Driver flavoured take on Batman's Nemesis and the second part of Andrés Muschietti's adaptation of Stephen King's multi-generational epic. The Last of Us Part II, Borderlands 3, A Plague Tale: Innocence & more! | #NOTplaying #196

by

So this episode was originally supposed to be with you a little sooner, but we've had some illness and family issues to deal with and then Sony & Microsoft decided to run their online announcement streams on the night we were going to record so you're getting the september episode right at the end of the month rather than somewhere in the middle of it. If there's any upside to all of this it's that the longer we leave it, the more stuff we've played and/or can talk about.

So after getting our take on said streams and the announcements within, Will gives his opinion on the latest Borderlands game, Marcus dresses down Epic Games' attempt at a game so very close to his heart and Rob talks about the first game of 2019 he's played, the surprisingly well-executed A Plague Tale: Innocence.

Waking from a Blogging Coma | #NOTblogging

by

What the fuck is blogging?

So, it's been a long while! Literally it's been years since I actively opened up this website/blog and actively had a good look at it or even thought about writing anything. Even though the posts have been consistent from #NOTwatching and #NOTplaying podcast posts (which in case you didn't know HAVE NOTHING to do with me creatively! Those awesome podcasts are the work of some people with in the #NOT family). With those posts aside, the last actual "podcast" I released was back in October 2018......even that was a podcast version of a radio show which I recorded back in 2017!!

If I actually go back to when I was actually actively writing or podcasting/radio presenting it's been 3 or 4 years!! That is insane to think I have not been very creative and productive with this website since 2015 in the main. I used to have regular posts coming out that ranged from comedy podcasts! Film reviews! Fake interviews with Gwyneth Paltrow and even plenty of fashion related posts that caused quite a stir with some other bloggers!!

To clarify i have NEVER met GPAL!

If I think as to why I seemed to have gone into some kind of blogging coma, I can only think that my personal life got neglected due to this world and I went on a downward spiral which took me a while to get out off!

"Oh Great! Another Mental Health Post?!"

Well, let's set it straight, maybe this is a post about mental health or maybe it's not! Maybe this an off the cuff post that i needed to write to give myself a boost in creativity, self care and mindfulness! Don't get me wrong, I don't expect people to care/worry/know about my life and circumstances and that is purely because those that know me, know me! This whole world of #NOTlistening and beyond was created for entertainment, fun, creativity and more. I never want that to change, I want that to always be the focal point. With all the podcasts (many still going #NOTwatching and #NOTplaying) archived and still available maybe they can find new listeners every day, which judging by the downloads is still a valid statement.

My blogging side of things blew up with the whole #Mashion and #Meauty world back in 2013-2015 where I was able to express my views on female fashion and beauty with comic tongue in cheek commentary. I managed to hit some nails right on the head whilst also completely missing the mark by miles. Regardless, this was always so much fun. I used this who topic to actually mask my interest and passion into make up and fashion! Something that years ago I joked about but over the past years I have grown to embrace and learn to openly talk about and share my love of!......Yes! I Love make up and fashion as much as the next woman! I don't believe that my gender needs to define my interests! Over the past year I have actually been doing an online make up artists course too! It's pretty obvious to say my gender identification needed looking into and my acceptance of how I see myself. I don't like labels! I am very fluid! I am comfortable. I enjoyed being part of the beauty bloggers community and hope I can maybe return back to writing more but with a more honest approach.

Anyway, I know I have changed so much within myself since my last conscious efforts to get creative with this blog. My personal well-being has improved and my mental health has really improved. I feel like I am ready to return to sharing my love of things with like-minded people. I had a strange few years where a certain person online used my online world to attack my choices and it really affected how I saw the way I presented myself online. It took me back and kind of killed part of my drive to share and collaborate and create. Only recently have I realised that my interests and life is not something for somebody to dictate and scrutinise when it's not hurting others nor is it affecting the geenral balance of the world. I truly believe that you need retrospective in these things and not allow the online world (including blogging/podcasting) to take over who you are. in 2019 I am older and slightly more aware of my choices and how I can best utilise them to influence my mood.

I am not going to lie, but the minute I started writing this blog post, I had no idea what I was going to write! Seriously, I have just allowed myself to just blurt out whatever I feel needs to be said. It's very therapeutic to just write your truth and this feels like that. Should I even post this? Why not! I am not looking for hits and likes, I just feel that maybe I owed some sort of explanation (not to specific people) in general to get things off my chest. Even now, I am not sure where and why all this came out but it feels good to write again!

I want to pick up where I left, but without the pressure of having to follow rules and guidelines! When I started podcasting I did it as a hobby and bit of fun, then it got more constructed and hard work. I want to find the balance of doing something fun with my mates and sharing creative ideas!

Thanks for reading this, whoever you are, I don't expect this to be a life changing post, many of you are probably skimming through it anyway, but I do appreciate the time you took to click the link and read. I will be back with more posts, maybe more podcasts and maybe more creative ideas to keep me happy.

I always say for people to be the best you!......even if you don't know who that you is, it's worth looking for.

I feel like I should sign this off with something wanky like "Peace Out" but that feels false. Maybe I'll just sign off this post with a quote to live by....

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken"

A Random Photo of Bianca Del-Rio!......For no reason whatsoever!

Final Fantasy VII & the issue of Videogame Nostalgia | #NOTplaying #195

by

Nostalgia is a funny old thing. It can turn even the sanest minds into dribbling wrecks at the mere whiff of childhood happiness. And don't those publishers know it. Why spend hundreds of man-hours coming up with original content when there are all those new platforms to have things ported to and why indeed make a new Final Fantasy game, when you can just mine an existing one? And so it was that the subject of the Final Fantasy VII remake came up during our breakdown of Square Enix's E3 presentation a few weeks back. And Rob found it so hard to comprehend Marcus's enthusiasm, that we thought it was worth spinning out into it's own episode...

Episode #200 inc. Star Wars, Game of Thrones, The Avengers, Breaking Bad & more! | #NOTwatching #200

by

And so we finally come to it... after almost 6 years of drivelling on about movies and TV... the 200th episode of the #NOTwatching Podcast. And to commemorate this milestone, we've decided to go back to our inception date of October 2013 and recall some of our favourite movies and TV since then. You know, the things that really stand out, like the return of Mad Max, the resurrection of Star Wars and the conquering trumph of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And with several of those things kind of wrapping up this year, we've decided to reassess the frequency of this here transmission. Listen on for the reasons and the details, but suffice to say this will be the final 'numbered' episode of the podcast. So long for now and thanks for all the listens :)

Spider-man - Far from Home, Stranger Things & more! | #NOTwatching #199

by

We're reaching a fairly significant milestone on our next episode, so we've had to pack in a lot on this one. We're covering the post-endgame fallout of Spiderman: Far from Home on the big screen whilst dealing with the third season of Stranger Things on the small one at home, but that's not before we get into some exciting news on the future of the MCU* and the dominance of Game of Thrones in this year's Emmy Nominations.

*This episode was recorded prior to the Phase 4 announcements at San Diego Comic Con this past weekend, so excuse our lack of foaming about that.

Google Stadia & the future of videogames | #NOTplaying #194

by

Google announced more details about it's 'Stadia' streaming platfrom prior to E3 and so it's shadow loomed large over the conference. Ubisoft seem to be embracing it, as do Bethesda & Electronic Arts, but where will this leave the first party publishers? Will consoles become a thing of the past as local processing becomes more and more irrelevant? On this episode, we attempt to answer these questions and many more...

Good Omens, Line of Duty, Fleabag, The OA & more! | #NOTwatching #198

by

We're back in TV land this week with quite a mixed bag of things we've been whiling away the hours with. First up is Neil Gaiman's adaptation of his and Terry Pratchett's Good Omens, which we mentioned before in our SXSW episode. We've also been trying to see if there really is anything at all to this Line of Duty phenomenon whilst also checking out the second seasons of Fleabag, Cobra Kai and The OA!

John Wick 3, Godzilla - King of the Monsters, Pokemon Detective Pikachu & more! | #NOTwatching #197

by

It's fair to say that Keanu Reeves is having a bit of a moment right now. Everything he seems to touch turns to gold and there is nothing more golden than the John Wick franchise when it comes to sheer wanton violence. Meanwhile we have a couple of creature features catering for a wide gamut of the genre with Pokemon Detective Pikachu and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Netflix serves up another shock twisty horror with The Perfection and we check in on our Summer Movie Wager to see how badly wrong it's going!
