Curiosity Killed the Ditz #13: Why Do We Wear Lipstick?

Lifestyle Blogger @DitzwitDtits asks Why do we wear Lipstick/Lipgloss ? Take a Look

Why; the three little letters that haunt my existence. From the moment I could speak I always wanted to know why. Now as an adult I am finding less and less people that want to answer my questions. I have been called nosy or weird, and angered many a person, with just those 3 letters. This is my story, quest you could call it, to try and find answers to my Whys.

This is an interesting one for me. I love to use flavored lip gloss because of the taste. Well, my Boyfriend, doesn't like the feel of lipstick or lipgloss when he kisses me. What's a girl to do? Get my kisses and then put the gloss on? Um, yes. How did you know...

That being said, why do we as a socitey like colored and glossy lips? Seems like its just a mess when we kiss and most of the time lips are attractivly colored to begin with. Per article "Why We Wear Makeup, As Per Science" there are 3 main reasons... sensorial pleasure, relief from self-dissatisfaction, and emotion. I took these and added my 2 cents. (Ok, maybe I added my 4 cents. Such sticklers, yech)
First Sensorial Pleasure: This is the joy that comes with feeling sexually attractive. The red lip sends the message of verility and life. Using different colors can make a woman feel sexy if they believe they look attractive. Note: they don't have to look attractive to you, only to themselves.
Relief from Self-Dissatisfaction: Pretty obvious but ties into the note above. If a woman is not satisified with their lips then they will not feel sexy. Don't feel sexy, don't look sexy, and no sex. Capice.
Emotion: The color of the lip can also denote the emotion of the person wearing it. Brighter, fun, colors, tend to show a lighter fun personality. Darker shades tend to show a more intense emotional person. Etc.

All of the above all add up to one thing. Lips are fun and coloring them can be very rewarding. Feeling sexy, good about oneself, and having self expression, all lead to confidence. Confidence leads to attractivness and attractiviness leads to sex. Yup, always end on the sex note.

Keep questioning.

  1. Loved reading this haha! I think you're right, though. Even when it comes to the colours a woman wears :)

  2. I for one, love when a woman wears lipstick/gloss. I tend to notice subtle things, and a woman's mouth is a very sexy way of getting attention.
Lipstick/gloss on a shirt, a message on a mirror, all great ways to remind someone of you.
    Once again, a great why!
