Films of your life: Actress and Producer Lucinda Rhodes

by
Films of your life is a series of posts where certain people get a chance to tell us a little about the films that have affected their lives. I have asked people from the Film world, other bloggers and people associated with the Podcasts.
In todays Films of your life #FOYL I asked Actress and Producer Lucinda Rhodes the Q's. Lucinda is a very busy and productive lady at the moment with her time and efforts put behind working hard on her new Production company "Hawken Rhodes" as well as working in front of the camera.

A Film from your Childhood that sticks with you
"The Princess Bride " It was amazing and I watched it a million times and as I got a bit older it was "Shining Through" with Michael Douglas, I'm fascinated with WW2 so I loved it .

A Film that you could watch on a loop
"The Goonies" hands down and maybe "Back to the Future: Part 2"

A Film that still makes you cry.

This is so obvious but "The Notebook" and "Blow" with Johnny Depp.

A Film you would most like to have been the main character in

'Fight Club' Helena Bonham Carter is fabulous always and that role is great for an actress

A Film that you love but others hate.

Wow the list would be endless "Snake Eyes" "Face Off'" I could go on and on with Nicholas Cage movies.

Thanks Lucinda for taking part in #FOYL. You can catch up with Lucinda on Twitter @LucindaRhodes and @HawkenRhodes. Check her out in "Death Walks" coming soon aswell as other new projects too including "No Reasons"

Stag Do's, Bachelor Parties and Gay Bars?!

by

Stag Do's (or Bachelor Parties for you Americans) seem to be something every man must go on when another member of the male species is getting married! Ladies have those Hen Do's (or Bachelorette Parties for you Americans) which seem to involve lots of drinking and inflatable penises and L plates! But never actually gone on a Hen Party I can't say what actually happens on them. BUT I have been on a Stag Do and seen and heard what happens on many of them.

In the latest Episode of  | The #NOTlistening Podcast Ep.135 - Stag with a Rubbish Comedian | myself and Billy discuss our experiences on certain Stag Do's. In the episode we don't go into detail on what happened on the stag do, but we do discuss Billy having to endure one of the worst comedians of all time whilst on one. And I mention the time I ended up in a Gay Bar with my Dad whilst on a stag do........seriously press play and listen.
DO IT NOW!

So, Stag Do's! What are they good for?....Absolutely nothing in my opinion! I am personally not a fan of those parties where the whole aim of the night/weekend is to get the Groom to be humiliated involving sexual lapdances or anything you wouldn't want your parents to see. I am not a fan of the whole "Last night of Freedom" thing or the "We finally have an excuse to go to a strip club" mentality. Stag Do's of this nature are simply not my bag. When it is my turn to have one, I would rather spend time with my mates getting drunk and having a genuinely fun night that doesn't have to involve humiliation and sexual antics. BUT that is just me, I don't care what others do.

I guess the whole Stag/Bachelor party idea stems from those crazy film antics we have seen over the years. From "The Hangover" to "Bachelor Party" to even "Very Bad Things" we have always seen the idea of a crazy night out, although extremely OTT and almost impossible, quite appealing and leads a lot of drunken minds willing to re-enact them for their friends.

What do YOU think of the whole "Bro" Mentality of a Stag Do/Bachelor Party? have you ever been on a wild one? Do they really exist? Let me know.

Films of your life: JIG from Zombie Life Podcast

by
Films of your life is a series of posts where certain people get a chance to tell us a little about the films that have affected their lives. I have asked people from the Film world, other bloggers and people associated with the Podcasts.

In todays Films of your life #FOYL I asked Jamie"JIG" Tuffen from "The Zombie Life Podcast", which is part of the POD GODS Network.

A Film from your Childhood that sticks with you
The film that sticks with me and will throughout my life, has got to be The Never Ending Story. If i remember rightly, its the first film we had on Tape in our household. We would watch it time and time again….over and over. Along with the goonies (which was the second film we had). But The Never Ending Story will be one of my favourites throughout my life.

A Film that you could watch on a loop
My favourite film of all time has got to be Shaun Of The Dead. Its funny, entertaining, and most of all……it has Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in it. What more could you ask for in a film :D I could watch that on loop for the rest of my life. If someone took me hostage and told me for the rest of my life i had to watch 1 film over and over again…..and that i could pick that film….it would have to be Shaun Of The Dead.

A Film that still makes you cry
There's only really ever been one film that makes me cry. Its another one of my favourite films…..and thats Man On  Fire. Its such an action packed film……but its also a very heartwarming film. A film about a man who goes out of his way to find a kidnapped girl…..who then gives his own life for that girls. Very good film. But also very sad :(

A Film you would most like to have been the main character in
Hmmmmmmm. Tough one. I think if i had to pick one film to be the main character in….it would have to be Star Trek. Being Captain Jim Kirk sat on the bridge of The Enterprise! Can’t think of anything better :D

A Film that you love but others hate
Now this is a hard one. The only film that i can think of that not a lot of people liked….but i loved it…was Chronicle. A film about 3 friends that acquired super powers. But one of them goes a little insane with the power he posses and ends up going on a rampage. I loved the whole film from beginning to end. But from what i hear….not a lot of people liked it. The same went with Cloverfield. I love that film but not a lot of other people did for some reason?  That reason will remain a mystery to me.

Thank you Jamie. Check out Jamie and his podcast "The Zombie Life Podcast"

Films of your life: Actress Petra Bryant

by
Films of your life is a series of posts where certain people get a chance to tell us a little about the films that have affected their lives. I have asked people from the Film world, other bloggers and people associated with the Podcasts.
In todays Films of your life #FOYL I asked Actress and good friend of mine Petra Bryant. Petra is a busy girl for 2014 with a handful of movies due to be released and filmed. Such as "The Last Scout" and "The Disappearance of Lenka Wood"

A Film from your Childhood that sticks with you

I spent my childhood in Czech Republic so my choice of film is ‘Slunce, Seno, Jahody’ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0195274/). It’s a hilarious comedy set in a little sleepy village.

A Film that you could watch on a loop
‘Love and other Disasters!’ It’s so well written and has top cast such as Catherine Tate and Dawn French.

A Film that still makes you cry.

‘Love Actually’! It never fails to tug at my heart strings.

A Film you would most like to have been the main character in

‘Amelie’ because her character is cute and naughty and the film is quirky and fun.

A Film that you love but others hate.

‘In a Day’. I really like this cute little film but most viewers on Netflix gave it 3 out of 5 stars!

Thank you Petra for taking part in #FOYL. You can check out the Podcast I did with Petra here:

The words have lost all meaning!

by

Remember back in school when you used to sit in English class and get told that you ain't speaking proper? or that you, know, you don't articulate your words and shit and stuff? and that your grammar and punctuation and so forth ain't that good, y'now what I mean? Like using words in the right context and shit and knowing the meaning of the words innit! I mean it's not just me who experienced this was it? No?.....Yes?........Fuck!

In the latest | #NOTlistening Podcast Ep.134 - Words lost all meaning! | we have a comedic chat on the topic of words and their origins.....WAIT! Don't go! It's not as dull as it sounds, seriously it's pretty funny and I promise YOU WILL learn something at the end, I swear!.
In the Episode Will, the one who is loudest and hits us with the facts, decides to bring a trivia based format to the episode. In previous shows we called these "OI: ODDLY Interesting" as a kind of rip on the Stephen Fry fact based show QI. I am looking to change it to fit the brand and #NOTinteresting seems a better fit!

Anyway, Will brings us some words in the English language and tells us the meaning of them, after some pretty funny and humorous guessing, especially seeing as I have no clue whatsoever! In fact the origin of the word Clue is in there and frankly it's pretty fucking terrible! It's so far removed from the actual meaning and tedious in my fucking opinion

Sorry for swearing, they say people who swear a lot have a low vocabulary, yet recently I heard people that swear a lot do it through emotional expression so I guess it means I am a very fucking emotional person and shit so Bloody get in you bastard!

So, Check out the episode, I kind of hope you have already pressed play by now and are listening, because lets face it, the podcasts are kind of the point of these posts. Let us not pull each others plonkers and what not, take a listen and get involved with The #NOTlistening community and beyond.

But I will admit, The whole words discussion fried my brain a little bit! Let us go back to talking about Miley Cyrus and her rubber face please.

Really Reel Show - 10/05/14 (Chelmsford Community Radio)

by
So, low and behold, somebody gave me and Billy a Radio show! Granted it is a 1 hour show on a Saturday Night at 8pm and on local radio station Chelmsford Community Radio and has NO Music in it so means we have to talk for a whole hour!
BUT it's Still pretty dam awesome we have our own radio slot!

Coming from a podcasting background I have spent the last 3 years recording podcasts full of swearing, (im)mature chat, personal thoughts and sole responsibility to be entertaining. So having a radio show weekly to an audience of people whom are unaware of my podcasts was a challenge.

NO swearing
NO (im)mature chat
NO potentially offensive views (not that i tend to be offensive, but I guess it's a possibility)

So, the aim was to win over new listeners with our podcast style radio show. The way to do this was to bring my film knowledge and use that as a springboard to an exciting hour of radio.

Did we succeed? Judge for yourself by listening to the show in full here:

REALLY REEL SHOW - 10/05/14 @ReelShowCCR

Join us every Saturday Night 8pm UK Time at http://chelmsfordcommunityradio.com for more chat and follow the show at @ReelShowCCR

You can listen the Show as a Podcast as part of The #NOTlistening Podcast too. We decided to add this one episode as a downloadable one as we wanted to introduce you to the show.

#FridayFright: So Bad it's Good.....The B Movie that won me over

by
So every other Friday will be a #FridayFright post. This series of posts was the brainchild of fellow blogger Kitty who wanted to blog and geek out about Horror films and everything that goes with it. Along with Roxy (and anybody else who wants to join in) we will bring you a post based on the same Question/Topic each time. So after you have read this, check out what they wrote over on their blogs.

Today's #FridayFright posts was a simple question:

"So Bad it's good.....What is the one Horror B-Movie to win you over?"

Ok, some of you are sitting wondering what the hell a B-Movie is, well let me tell you.

A B Movie was originally a movie created on a generally low budget and showcased as a supporting film for the main film at the cinema. Over the years these disappeared and now a B Movie is generally seen as a movie with little or no budget but with the aspirations to be a major Hollywood film. I wouldn't say it's an independent movie, more like a cheaper version of a film that already exists. I could be wrong, but fuck it, lets go with that shall we?

So what B-Movie in the horror genre did I watch that was awfully bad it won me over? well to be honest I have seen some generally awful horror films but not many are standing out in my head right now.
The most obvious one would be "Troll 2" The best worst movie ever made that has no actual links to the original "Troll" film......and there aren't any trolls in it what-so-ever.

I suppose the one film that sticks in my head over the years of watching Horror films would have to be
"Halloween 3: Season of the Witch"

Why this film? Because it the third film in the series of Halloween films, you know the horror franchise with Michael Myers as the bogeyman serial killer who strike fear into anyone he comes across. That is correct a very recognisable figure in the horror genre. The problem is, in the third film, he doesn't appear! The whole film has nothing to do with Michael Myers and decides to focus on a toymaker plotting to kill all the kids in america using Halloween masks.

So it is bad? Yes, it's pretty terrible. The whole idea is so stupid and crazy it is hard to sell to people. The acting is pretty mediocre and OTT. Especially a scene when the main character is shouting down a phone at someone, it's almost Joey Tribbiani school of acting stuff. The whole 80's futuristic vibe is pretty weird too. Robots are actually in this film, I forgot that until just now and I am smiling at the thought of robot humanoids appearing in this film without any actual explanation.

But it won me over? Yes! Why? because I am a sucker for a film that is so far fetched and crazy and actually pretty brave. The whole concept is stupid granted, but the ending is pretty brave for a film.
*Spoiler- Kids die!* that was quite shocking to me when I watched it. The final 15 minutes was the best part of the film along with the creepy "!0 more days till Halloween" tune played throughout.

This film I watched aged 15, so I wasn't a child who got scared but a teenager who was expecting some kind of 80's Michael Myers Halloween continuation. At first I loved the idea of them trying something different, and to this day I am still repsectful at their bravery, but I felt they kind of missed a trick with this one and was pretty glad they brought Michael back for Halloween 4,5,6,7....99 etc.
This is like having a Transformer movie without any actual Transformers or having a Batman movie and focuses it on Alfred doing the washing up or something.

So, I am giving a mixed opinion on this film. On one hand I am simply saying it's a pretty bad film that I wouldn't recommend, but on the other hand I am saying it actually won me over.....How?...because the whole 80's cheese factor sticks with me. I love the whole Over the top, weird vibe that it has going on.

I guess what I am saying is "How the hell did this get made?" The bravery of this idea is something to behold. I would loved to have been in that meeting with the producers

"Ok, I have the script ready for Halloween 3"
"Great, how does Michael Kill this time?"
"Oh, nobody. He isn't in this one, he's having a break, instead we have something far more scary"
"What can be more scarier than Michael Myers?"

"A Corporate Toy Maker who wants to kill children using ancient ways and futuristic tools via a Halloween mask"
*silence*
"Ok, make sure you use creepy music.....and Humanoid Robots"

So there you go. Halloween 3: Season on the Witch is a bad film that kind of won me over.
What do you think? What is yours?
Let me know
