The #NOTplaying Podcast #35 - Watch_Dogs Mod, GTA V on Xbox One/PS4/PC & Batman: Arkham Knight for January?

by
Call us superficial, but when we’re promised a certain level of visual fidelity and shown a game actually working and looking as it does 2 years out from release, and we have hardware capable enough to run it, you have to forgive us for being a bit miffed when the final product turns out to be so obviously downgraded. Such has been the story of Watch_Dogs and likely a great many other games to be released this generation. In this episode we attempt to get to the bottom of why this is happening and how the community is responding. We also stop our bleating long enough to discuss some of the actual news that’s happened since E3 wound down...

Drop Dead Podcast

by

The #NOTlistening Podcast took a little break recently. Two weeks of no new episodes may not seem like a long time but because of the way we record it was more like Six weeks of no recording. Sometimes taking a break is good for the show as it recharges batteries and gathers some new humorous stories to discuss and topical chat we can tackle.

In | Ep.138 - Drop Dead Podcast | of the #NOTlistening Podcast Myself (Adam), Will and Ash got back behind the mics to discuss what we have been up to in the last month and a bit aswell as finally getting together to chat about and remember the late Rik Mayall.

Obviously being a few weeks late to the party, but the three of us being huge Rik Mayall fans, we still decided to dedicate a huge portion of this episode to discuss the effect this comedy genius had on out lives and it seems that we all held him high in our comedy hearts for different reasons.

It must be a generational thing as Will and Ash, being a slightly bit older than myself, best remembered Rik for his role as "The People's Poet" Rik in "The Young Ones" and as the scene stealing role of Lord Flashheart in "Blackadder II" and "Blackadder Goes Forth". Also his role in the TV Movie "Whoops Apocalypse" was a key factor in being a Rik Mayall fan.

As for myself I mostly remember Rik Mayall from his role as Richard Richard AKA Richie in "Bottom" alongside comedy partner Ade Edmonson. I remember this being the sort of comedy a 11 year old boy would find hilarious and talk about the next day in the playground.
Also the film "Drop Dead Fred" was possibly the one film I watched over and over again as a youngster and to this day can recite some memorable lines from.

Rik Mayall had a style of comedy that was both subtle and openly slapstick. From his witty quips and fast talking to his all out frying pan, hitting in the nuts slapstick, it was hilarious.
Rik Mayall had a great career in my eyes and somebody that left the comedy world too soon, but in doing so helped a few generations learn what was funny. I will always regard Rik Mayall as one of a few comedians that actually taught me what was funny and made me realise what I personally found hilarious.

In the Podcast Episode I said I would find as many Rik Mayall clips on You Tube and post them here, so here they are. Please enjoy, aswell as listening to the podcast episode where we also discuss how Ash fell into a Firepit and suffered some serious burning!.......Oh the Hilarity!

The #NOTplaying Podcast #34 - Star Citizen: Arena Commander, The Forest & more...

by

On this week's show we dig into Star Citizen: Arena Commander, the first phase of Chris Robert's incomprehensibly enormous crowd-funded endeavour. We also get our first look at The Forest, which is also not quite finished yet. A Story about my Uncle and Among the Sleep are complete, but ironically not quite so good. I think it all makes sense if you listen... :S

The #NOTplaying Podcast #33 - No Man's Sky, Assassin's Creed: Unity, Rise of the Tomb Raider & more...

by

This week we are joined by a very good friend of the show, Adam Scott, to go through some of the biggest and best announcements of last week’s game-packed E3 in LA as well as the controversy stirred up by Ubisoft’s decision to not have a female protagonist in Assassin’s Creed: Unity. Other games mentioned include Hello Games’ impossibly ambitious and now Sony Exclusive, No Man’s Sky, Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age: Inquisition, GTA V, The Division, Uncharted: A Thief's End, Far Cry 4, Homefront - The Revolution and many many more…

The #NOTplaying Podcast #32 - Watch_Dogs, Dark Souls 2, The Banner Saga & more...

by
There couldn’t really be a bigger game to feature on this inaugural edition of ‘What we haven’t not been playing’ (see what we did there?), for it happened to coincide with the release of Ubisoft’s famously delayed this-gen franchise, Watch_Dogs. We talk about our first impressions of the game, before moving onto some other games we’ve been playing since we were last together, including The Banner Saga, Dark Souls 2 and a couple of mobile/indie games we played so you don’t have to. All part of the service… next week: E3 :S

#FridayFright: What Scares you the Most?

by
So every other Friday will be a #FridayFright post. This series of posts was the brainchild of fellow blogger Kitty who wanted to blog and geek out about Horror films and everything that goes with it. Along with Roxy Ari and Chloe we will bring you a post based on the same Question/Topic each time. So after you have read this, check out what they wrote over on their blogs.

Today's #FridayFright posts was a simple question:

"CREATURE FEATURE:Who scares you the most?"

Now, being a lover of horror films I seem to be able to watch them without getting scared as such, but still enjoying them. It takes a certain type of film and topic to scare me. Realism is always pretty scary, especially films that seem to involve situations that I can associate with and think "What if that happened to me tomorrow?" It is the same sort of thinking that makes you run up the stairs once you have turned your lights off.......you know, just in case somebody is going to chase you up the stairs........You've all done it.......You STILL do it!

So I guess thinking of "something" creature like that scares me would be quite difficult. If you were talking actual "Creatures" from out of space, a lagoon or simply made in a lab then I wouldn't have an answer as I am not scared of them as such.

BUT if we were to say "What kind of supernatural creature" scares me? well then it would be none other than.....

The "CANDYMAN"

That is right! Mr Tony Todd himself! The Man who wasn't made of candy but instead covered in honey and smothered by bees! The Man who had a hook for a hand that could have caused a dangerous masturbation session if not done with full concentration!
The 1990 Clive Barker masterpiece "Candyman" is a film that stands out as a horror that still chills me to this day. The idea of a mysterious hooked figure that can be summoned by saying his name 5 times has always stuck with me since I watched it.
The Film itself is a great horror from the story to it's musical score but Tony Todd as Candyman and his deep voice and evil looking smirk has always haunted me whenever I stand alone in a car park or in a grubby public toilet.......not that i stand in car parks alone that often......or visit public loos either....especially the kinds like in the film "Candyman".

I can't explain exactly why Candyman scares me the most I just always get this sense of unsettling when I think about the situation he gets you in. The idea of a mysterious man who only you can see stalking you, getting into your head or worse killing you! is pretty dam scary. The idea of someone chasing you and nobody else can see them is pretty terrifying in my eyes.

I remember watching this film when I was about 10-11 years old and to this day I was pretty freaked out by the entire film. The films score is still one of the best and unnerving scores I have heard and the whole dirty. gritty and frankly depressing setting in the slums of a city really gives the idea of Candyman more levels.

Candyman just looks scary! he's tall, sounds scary with his deep husky tones and has a fucking hook for a hand which looks very uncared for, that shit is rusty as fuck!

With the 1990 movie "Candyman" it leaves a very debatable theory of whether Candyman is real. Now I have my own actual theories based on Candyman and whether or not he is actually real or simply in the mind of Helen. I even wrote an entire asignment about it for film studies back at college and was told I was understanding the story very well.........but also told by a few people that I was trying to stop myself getting scared by saying he wasn't real.........I bet nobody says Candyman five times into a mirror........Nah, didn't think so!

So, I don't think I can say much more than that. Candyman scares the fucking shit out of me! #SimpleAsThat

But I suppose if I imagined Candyman as Bored Kayne West?........yeah that makes it a whole lot less scary! #BoredKayneAlwaysCheersMeUp

Introducing the #NOTplaying Podcast - Battlefield Hardline, Halo 5 and more...

by
Yes. The name’s changed. We did warn you. So here it is: The first #NOTplaying Podcast. Or the 31st Game DumpCAST, but under a different name. It’s quite similar to the old show, but the intro’s a bit different. You probably get the idea. Unless you’re reading this on www.notlistening.co.uk - in which case this podcast is entirely new. Except there’s been 30 episodes already. I guess I should shut up really, but before I do I’ll just let you know that if you like playing videogames or wonder why Facebook shelled out $2 billion for a virtual reality company then you might enjoy spending an hour or so listening to us three geeks having a chat over skype. We do it every week, alternating between news round-ups and fairly lengthy discussions about the games we’ve been playing. There’s some talk of covering board games and other tabletop pursuits at some point, but that’s still yet to happen. Anyway, this week’s episode is all about news (link to stories discussed below). We also share our E3 predictions a few weeks ahead of the Los Angeles Convention taking place on June 12th - 14th. Enjoy!

Kentucky Fried Podcast! - How Podcasting has served me so far...

by

What I love about doing the podcast with Will and Ash is I actually come out of many episodes learning something! Seriously, I actually think after many episodes with these two I am that little bit more cleverer......or just a little less stupid!

In these types of podcast episodes (which we named OI: ODDly Interesting BUT soon this will change to #NOTinteresting! - See what we did there??) Will likes to show off and gather facts and trivia on some obscure topics in the same way Popular BBC 2 show "QI" does.
In the newest episode| #NOTlistening Ep.136 - Kentucky Fried Podcast | we sat down and unearthed some random facts surrounding:

- Hitler being TIME magazines Man of the Year back in 1938!
- Where the term "JayWalking" Came from
and
- Why Kentucky Fried Chicken simply became "KFC" a while back.

Being a comedy podcast, we have always liked to keep the format(s) of the show fresh and entertaining. With Myself and Billy the episodes of #NOTlistening are more general chit chat and banter between two best friends.
(Click here for ALL Adam and Billy Episodes)
(Click here for Adam and Billy "Really Reel Show" Episodes)

The Adam, Will and Ash Episodes usually have a more rounded structure and involve humorous facts and games to keep each other on our toes. Lots of opinions and open views amongst our different tastes on things.
(Click here for ALL Adam, Will and Ash Episodes)

I LOVE doing this podcast "The #NOTlistening Podcast" and am happy with the audience we have built over time amongst all the changes and shifts we have made (including Re-Branding). The whole website has slowly integrated with the shows and made the Podcasts more a part of a whole Brand.

Please continue to explore the website and check out the blog posts which are generally written by me (Adam) and they can expand from TV and Film related nonsense to even some comedic "Fashion" posts which come in the form of "#Mashion and #Meauty" which always does surprisingly well amongst the female demographic of the #NOTlistening audience.
The Website and Brand is constantly evolving and expanding and only recently and over the next few weeks TWO more podcasts will be integrating themselves with the website as part of "The Barker Podcasts Collection" crossover.
The #NOTwatching Podcast (Formerly TV DUMPcast)
and
The #NOTplaying Podcast (Formerly GAME DUMPcast)
These Two Podcasts, Hosted by Rob Howard and his team of experts(!) have created a great duo of podcasts that focus on TV and Film as well as The Gaming Industry and beyond.

Both Podcasts are part of the Podcasting network I created which can easily be found at Spreaker and are going to continue to promote the whole #NOTlistening brand along with it.

So, Podcasting is a great little venture that has served me pretty well over the last 3 years and in the last 6 months has picked up even more drastically since the whole re-branding.

Whether or not you listen to the podcasts or just read the occasional posts we release, We at #NOTlistening.co.uk appreciate your support and hope to continue with this venture for time to come.

Below are some POPULAR Posts and Podcasts of recent months:
