What made me smile in 2014? | #NOTreading

What did I Like most about 2014?

All good things come in 6's?.....

So 2014 is drawing to a close and it has been both a triumph for both my personal life and online blogging/podcasting life. I have, in my humble opinion, had a fucking brilliant year! So many things have happened and without sounding like an arrogant dick, but have come because I worked hard and stayed smiling.

Right, don't click off now! Stay with me, this isn't going to be a post about how great I am and all that, this is simply going to be a post about the 6 things I have been most happy and proud of this maybe a little self indulgent, but fuck it! it's nearly 2015, it's time to reflect and it's my still there?......ok....sorry I said fuck twice already.......I'm not that sorry.......let's just both get on the same page.

So here are the 6 things in 2014 that have made me proud and made me smile....why 7?....I don't know

1. Rebranding the Podcast

Back in 2011 I started a podcast called "The ODDcast PODcast UK" but in the early months of 2014 I decided to give the comedy podcast a rebrand and have it more connected with my blog. The whole #NOTlistening moniker has been around as a running theme in my blog posts and podcasts so it felt like the natural thing to bring everything I do together and create a #NOTlistening Brand. Over the year it has enabled me to have all the podcast episodes and my blog posts on ONE website and connected and bring in more people and formats for the episodes of the show. This includes having more guests on episodes, reformatting the #NOTinteresting style episodes and simply switching it each week. This whole podcast rebranding also helped create a uniqueness with the name as I was beginning to find that "The ODDcast PODcast" was becoming quite a common podcasting name.

2. Doing Radio

In May of this year I managed to bag myself a weekly radio slot on a local up and coming radio station. This was perfect for me and I was lucky to be able to join up with some great people on Based in Chelmsford, The birthplace of radio, and hopefully soon to be on FM, I am looking forward to what the future of the station holds and how much I will be a part of it. I started with a weekly Saturday Night show "The Really Reel Show" which is a comedy/film based chat show where I get a guest co host in to discuss films, themselves and much more. After this I was offered a weekly early breakfast show called "Wake Up with...Adam" on a Friday where I actually get to play music and chat randomness for 90 minutes.

3. Having Ruth Crilly chat about me

This one is very much self indulgent! Back in the summer I was lucky enough to get a bit of promotion and love by a very well respected and brilliant blogger/vlogger/model Ruth Crilly from @ModelRecommends. I had been chatting to Ruth for a while beforehand and we were trying to work out something to collaborate on. This never happened due to busy workloads either side, but Ruth decided to include me in one of her Sunday posts and pretty much give me a big up and gave me some blog love. For Ruth this was pretty much a fleeting post, but for me it is something I was proud of simply because it was nice to see my blog posts had reached certain people in certain areas. Ruth is bloody brilliant, check out her stuff!

4. #Mashion and #Meauty

This has been a whirlwind of craziness! The whole concept and idea of #Mashion and #Meauty (which is a Males take on Female Fashion and Beauty) was supposed to be a limited series that I did to embrace myself with the #bbloggers and #fbloggers world on twitter. After several posts in 2013 that were really popular, I realised I had a following of bloggers who seemed to enjoy my posts. This year, after several months of trying to figure out the concept, I re-invigorated it and brought out more #Mashion and #Meauty posts and videos. This culminated in a video of me getting my legs waxed in the name of feminine beauty! Check it out!

The Future of #Mashion and #Meauty should continue with more #bbloggers and #fbloggers style posts. I was also lucky to go to a bloggers event back in November and meet up with some of the bloggers who are fans of #Mashion. It is a concept and series of posts I enjoy writing and get more joy out hearing the response.

5. UK Blog Awards 2015

So towards the end of this year I was lucky and honored to be shortlisted for "Most Innovative" Blog at the upcoming UK BLOG AWARDS. In November I was put forward for the Nomination round and after dismissing the whole "vote for me" style of things, I actually did a U-Turn and thought "If somebody decided to put the website forward, why not actually tell people to vote?" so I did.
I thought I would actually let people know they could vote and if I got enough votes then I would be shortlisted for the actual awards.......then left it there. Luckily enough I was shortlisted and in 2015 I am actually in the running for "Most Innovative" Blog. Is my blog Innovative? Well it isn't up to me anymore, but Thank you to EVERYONE who voted. I Love you all!....Maybe too much.

6. Having a Son!

Obviously the most important and most exciting thing to happen to me in 2014 had nothing to do with my website or podcasts. It was the birth of my son Miles. I don't usually write about him on the blog but I do post the odd Instagram or Facebook post about him. Miles isn't part of my online #NOTlistening world, but 2014 belongs to him! He made my year and wins over anything else that has happened this year.

All in All 2014 has been the best year of my life so far......Simple as that really.

Thank you to everyone who has been a fan of the podcasts and blog posts throughout 2014. I hope you stick around for 2015. Please let me know what 6 things you have been proud of this year.

And that is it from me today! Thank you for reading. Please throw me a comment below or simply tweet me @BarkerPODcasts and/or the new @MashionMeauty
