My top 5 Leonard Nimoy moments - A Tribute to Mr. Spock.

by
Very few celebrity deaths have hit me as hard as this one - the fact that I'm writing this at all pretty much says it all. It really didn't take me long to think of these... The relationship between James T. Kirk and the pointy eared one is one of the most enduring in cinematic history so let's start there I guess, with my number 1:

Star Trek - The Voyage Home

This was one of the Trek movies that Nimoy actually co-wrote and directed and had the craziest plot involving time-travelling to a contemporary San Francisco & whales. At this point in the saga, Spock is still very much dealing with the events of the last movie 'The Search for Spock' so is at his most strange and hilarious. There's one particular exchange in which he's asked if he might change his mind about something and he replies with "What's wrong with the one I have?" - at the tender age of 7, I found this hilarious. I still do now and it's the first thing I ever think of whenever someone mentions Mr. Spock. I couldn't find the exact clip on YouTube, so you'll have to make do with this:

Galvatron - Transformers the Movie

Although I didn't realise at the time, the very same year, Nimoy also delivered a superbly menacing performance as the reincarnated villain Galvatron in what is still for my money the definitive on-screen adaptation of Hasbro's mighty morphing robot franchise.

Tiny Spock - The Big Bang Theory

I'm actually a few years behind on this show so I only watched this episode for the first time earlier this week. One of the first things I thought when I heard the news of Nimoy's passing was how devasted Sheldon Cooper must be :(

Old Spock

Although JJ Abrams is arguably working on the correct Sci-Fi project now, he didn't do a bad job rebooting Star Trek for a new generation, whilst still respecting it's a legacy. A legacy personified by a cameo from who else?

William Bell - Fringe

Fringe was for me a bit of a mediocre show overall, but it definitely had it's moments, not least of these was the revelation that the infamous William Bell was to be portrayed by Leonard Nimoy, proving that well into his 80s, he was still a screen presence to be reckoned with.

And that's all I have. Leonard Nimoy lived a long and properous life and ended it signing off with the most dignified and profound sentiment:

He will be missed.

Rest In Peace Mr. Spock.

87th Academy Awards Special | #NOTwatching #38

by
Apologies for our tardiness this week, but believe it or not this is actually the quickest recording/editing/production turnaround we've ever managed for an episode of the show! The occasion? Why, the Oscars of course, which happened last weekend at the Dolby Theatre in West Hollywood. Here's our thoughts on the winners, the losers and the ceremony itself, with special guests Matt Foxley and Marcus Hurley covering for Iain. It's all about those golden statues on this week's #NOTwatching Podcast!

Life is Strange, The Saboteur & 80 Days | #NOTplaying #65

by

Despite still being knee-deep in Q4 2014 AAA Open World madness, we did manage to find a couple of hours to throw at Square's new episodic adventure, Life is Strange, which repurposes Dontnod's trial & error memory mechanic from their previous game, Remember me, into a time-travelling coming of age story. Also - Iain finally finished Pandemic Studios's 2009 swansong, The Sabouteur and Rob's been binging on a handful of Inkle's choose-your-own-adventures, capped off with the deservedly award-nominated and Time Magazine Game of the Year, 80 Days... it's all about what we've been playing on this week's #NOTplaying Podcast!

Oscar 2015 Predictions | #NOTreading

by
WHO WINS WHAT WINS!?!

So, The Oscars is HERE! I thought I would give my predictions for tonight's Awards and see how well I do. If you are reading this after The awards, then you can see how well I did.....or didn't.

I have watched some of the films and used my knowledge of what I have heard from "Buzz" and here are my picks.

BEST PICTURE

American Sniper

Birdman (SHOULD WIN)

Boyhood (WILL WIN)

The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Imitation Game

Selma

The Theory of Everything

Whiplash

I LOVED Birdman, even though it is pretty pretentious, but I also LOVED Boyhood and Grand Budapest Hotel too. I just think The Academy might admire the 12 years slog Boyhood went through to get to the screen and not look dated. I kind of hope I am wrong and Birdman wins purely for it's unique, pretentious (in a good way) feel and a film you don't see every day.

BEST DIRECTOR

Wes Anderson, The Grand Budapest Hotel

Alejandro G Inarritu, Birdman

Richard Linklater, Boyhood (WILL WIN/SHOULD WIN)

Bennett Miller, Foxcatcher

Morten Tyldum, The Imitation Game

Alejandro deserves credit for his style in Birdman and any other year he'd have it in the bag without a doubt. BUT because Linklater had a lot of patience in doing a film over 12 years and he deserves praise for all that effort.

BEST ACTOR

Steve Carell, Foxcatcher

Bradley Cooper, American Sniper

Benedict Cumberbatch, The Imitation Game

Michael Keaton, Birdman (SHOULD WIN)

Eddie Redmayne, The Theory of Everything (WILL WIN)

Eddie looks like he might snatch this award from Keaton, which is a shame as both put in great performances, but Keaton really puts in a career defining one. Again, I hope I wrong and the academy give Keaton the award rather than a usual typical "Oscars" performance as a man with a disease or condition.

BEST ACTRESS

Marion Cotillard, Two Days, One Night

Felicity Jones, The Theory of Everything

Julianne Moore, Still Alice (WILL WIN)

Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl (SHOULD WIN)

Reese Witherspoon, Wild

I fucking LOVED Rosamund Pike's performance in "Gone Girl" and think she should get ALL the awards, including best Actor! BUT.....It's Julianne's year and about time, so I guess she'll get that long awaited award.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

Robert Duvall, The Judge

Ethan Hawke, Boyhood

Edward Norton, Birdman (SHOULD WIN)

Mark Ruffalo, Foxcatcher

JK Simmons, Whiplash (WILL WIN)

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Patricia Arquette, Boyhood (WILL WIN/SHOULD WIN)

Laura Dern, Wild

Keira Knightley, The Imitation Game

Emma Stone, Birdman

Meryl Streep, Into the Woods

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

American Sniper

The Imitation Game

Inherent Vice (SHOULD WIN)

The Theory of Everything (WILL WIN)

Whiplash

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY

Birdman

Boyhood

Foxcatcher

The Grand Budapest Hotel (WILL WIN)

Nightcrawler (SHOULD WIN)

BEST ANIMATED FILM

Big Hero 6

The Boxtrolls

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (WILL WIN/SHOULD WIN)

Song of the Sea

The Tale of Princess Kaguya

The following picks are pure guess I won't do a Will/Should system. I'll just put my guesses on who I think will win.

BEST ANIMATED SHORT

The Bigger Picture

The Dam Keeper

Feast

Me and My Moulton

A Single Life

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

Birdman

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Ida

Mr Turner

Unbroken

BEST COSTUME DESIGN

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Inherent Vice

Into the Woods

Maleficent

Mr Turner

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE

CitizenFour

Finding Vivian Maier

Last Days in Vietnam

The Salt of the Earth

Virunga

BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT

Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1

Joanna

Our Curse

The Reaper

White Earth

BEST EDITING

American Sniper

Boyhood

The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Imitation Game

Whiplash

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM

Ida (Poland)

Leviathan (Russia)

Tangerines (Estonia)

Timbuktu (Mauritania)

Wild Tales (Argentina)

BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT

Aya

Boogaloo and Graham

Butter Lamp (La Lampe Au Beurre De Yak)

Parvaneh

The Phone Call

BEST HAIR AND MAKE UP

Foxcatcher

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Guardians of the Galaxy

BEST MUSIC SCORE

The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Imitation Game

Interstellar

Mr Turner

The Theory of Everything

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN

The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Imitation Game

Interstellar

Into the Woods

Mr Turner

BEST SONG

'Everything is Awesome', The Lego Movie

'Glory', Selma

'Grateful', Beyond the Lights

'I'm Not Gonna Miss You', Glen Campbell… I'll Be Me

'Lost Stars', Begin Again

BEST SOUND EDITING

American Sniper

Birdman

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Interstellar

Unbroken

BEST SOUND MIXING

American Sniper

Birdman

Interstellar

Unbroken

Whiplash

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Guardians of the Galaxy

Interstellar

X-Men: Days of Future Past

So Lets see how well I did.....unless you read this after the awards, then how did I do?

I Sunk Your Battleship - GIVEAWAY! | #Mashion & #Meauty

by
Fancy looking like me?

This is a first for the blog! I have had various things sent to me to talk about and it has been lovely. I have had anything from Hair products to T shirts to even Fake Tan! Being in the blogging community opens up many doors, some which I am far to scared to venture down, but many which are great to expand my niche via.

Recently a brilliant new Streetwear UK brand called "I Sunk Your Battleship" contacted me to introduce themselves to me. Me? why would you want to talk to me? What do I know about fashion? I write silly little blog posts and do rambling podcasts!....well it seems that is what they liked.....Apparently.

The company www.isunkyourbattleship.com are a UK based clothing brand which reside in Newcastle. They have their hand in the....you know what? I am going to copy and paste THEIR about you piece, simply because they wrote it beautifully and summed up who they are and what they do so brilliantly. Much better than I could ever manage.

Never heard of I Sunk Your Battleship before? We wouldn’t have expected you to.

Championing the underdog, we are the people who’ve have had enough of niceties and smiling for the camera. Like a band of headstrong sailors, we believe in the power of subversion, and the satisfying feeling of knowing something that others don’t.

We’re heading back to the roots of our island nation, using forgotten naval visual languages of semaphore and flag signals to express our disdain and disinterest in the here and now.

Forget your trends, your fads, your ‘next big thing’; I Sunk Your Battleship present to you the ‘next thing that you probably want to wear’. With one foot on the street and one out at sea, our collection of tees, hoodies and accessories is made from the best sourced materials, meaning you can be as happy as a kid at Christmas in knowing that you’re buying the highest quality product from the UK whilst still looking like the (third-ish) coolest kid in town.

We are sailing on dangerous tides, heading for new horizons and discarding the idea of the fashionable clones that live among us. Our apparel is a new way of telling those who preach at you that you literally couldn’t give a fuck, without the words ever crossing your lips.

Pleased to meet us? You sure as hell won’t be.

We’re not going to tell you that wearing our magnificent clothing will change your life, because that’s a load of bullshit. Our collection will not give you a six-pack, propel you to stardom, or help you get the girl. It will, however, be a mighty fine item for your wardrobe that you’ll be glad you purchased: honest.

So, fly the flag for being yourself, and step aboard the ISYB vessel for a swimmingly good time.

In short: buy our shit. You won’t regret it.

Well Said! I fucking loved that About you write up! That made me a fan of the company right away. Anyway.....This is the exciting part! They sent me a T Shirt to test out and see what I thought. The Tee was covered in the Flag Signs (Semaphore) and at first I was " Oh, Ok, it's a code, wonder what it spells"

WELL.....I quickly found out what it spelt and I was smiling from ear to ear! The Tee was full of profanities in Semaphore coding! I was literally walking around with a Tee that said
"Nob"
"Piss"
"Wank"
and
"Cunt"
and nobody was none the wiser. I felt like a naughty school kid who had just wrote boobies on a calculator. It was a fun idea and for me, and my humour, it paid off. I see it as a discussion starter. I just can't wait to wear it in front of a sailor who knows Semaphore and spots it.....but you don't get many of them in my neck of the woods.

SO!......Fancy a Tee like me? Well you can! because the lovely people at "I Sunk..." have agreed to let me do a giveaway on the Tee Shirt! So if you are  guy who fancies a chance at getting one then  do what the Giveaway machine says. If you are a lady and have a guy friend you want to give this shirt to, then enter! Or you might want it for yourself! it's a T Shirt! Any gender can wear one right?!

Anyway! ENTER!! Share with your friends and get them to ENTER!
Good Luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

So there you go! Hope you enjoyed this, if not.....tough shit. Check out all the other #Mashion Posts here:

Microsoft's Windows 10 Event, including 'Hololens' | #NOTplaying #64

by
Microsoft blew the doors off their Windows 10 'event' last month with the announcement of their 'Holographic' AR headset, 'Hololens'. Careful to avoid the inevitable Google Glass comparisons, the marketing message demonstrated some interesting use-case scenarios: from minor home plumbing tasks to playing Minecraft like the digital lego it really is. Microsoft's latest tech is easily it's most far fetched since Xbox Kinect. On this week's show we talk about everything that went down in Redmond on January 21st.

‘Microsoft Hololens’ Revealed, an Untethered See-through AR Headset

'Hololens' won't be another Google Glass

Minecraft coming to hololens

Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for windows 7/8

Most pointless functionality ever. Stream Xbox One games to your PC (Tablet might be a play against Sony's Remote Play functionality?)

Fable Legends will be cross-platform MP on Xbone & PC

Molyneux hilariously warns Microsoft not to do a Molyneux.

by
Time for another Movie News Update on this week's #NOTwatching Podcast! We kick things off with our thoughts on this year's Oscar Nominees - who we think should win, which films probably will and why... Then there's the rumour that Michael Keaton might be riding his currently high profile straight into that long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel and the confirmation that the next Ghostbusters movie will indeed be a 'spirit'ual (get it?) follow-up to Bridesmaids. Looking for a explanation to such a controversial statement? Dear Listener, you know what to do!

The Grammys Red Carpet Review | #Mashion & #Meauty with Blogging Girl!

by
Whammy at the Grammy!

Sunday was a double Whammy for Red Carpet, Showy Offy Style things, goings on in the world of Celeb. The Grammy's was held in America and compared to The BAFTA's ( Which you can read HERE! ) The Grammy's smashed the Red Carpet! So Many great looks on show for sure.
So, in the Bafta's post I did a "What are they thinking" thing, so this #Mashion post I am going to allow somebody else to do the post!
Please Welcome BG AKA Blogging Girl to the Blog. She is a young blogging girl with knowledge of the Fashion and Celeb world......Plus she is totally a made up character.........or is she!?......No she is!......Maybe.......Nah, totally a creation......of reali.....Fuck it. read the post!

MADGE: Oh...My...God! I mean what the hell is this Grandma wearing?! Is she lost? Has she escaped the nursing home? Why is she dressed like a dominatrix from the 1950's!?! Ergh! This is totes wrong! This is so not suitable for a lady of her age! What is she? Like 40 years old?

ARIANNA GRANDE: What a babe! Love this girl! She can do no wrong! I once saw her in concert and when she left, we waited in the alleyway and got her autograph, she spat in my face because I tried to cut some of her hair for keepsake! She is so edgy right now! I still haven't washed my face! The stickiness reminds me of her!

MEGHAN TRAINOR: I am the world's Number One Meghan fan! This girl has inspired so many girls of all sizes to be happy with their bodies, even if she has lost some weight and looks thinner than last year, and always glamorous and all that. You have to love her support for the big girls out there, I once weighed 23 stone in high school but after I left I had plastic surgery, gastric surgery and tummy tucks on the NHS and at the age of 18 I am a size 6 and loving my curves! us Big Girls must stick together right?!

GWEN STEFANI: OH.MY. GOD! If I look like this when I am in my 60's then I will be happy! Gwen looks great in this outfit that usually only suits young girls like Jennifer Lawrence! She is doing it for the oldies right now! She should be so proud of herself. You go old lady!

KATY PERRY: K.P is looking great with her blue/purple hair! A few years back I dyed my hair blue to emulate her but it went wrong and my hair fell out and I had to get hair implants on the NHS. Now I have long blonde locks that I think were once owned by a Ukrainian Model who died from drinking Vodka and Bleach to stay thin.

RITA ORA: I hate this girl! I was met Rita Ora in a Kebab Shop in Hackney after I went out for Hannah Jenkins 18th Birthday! This was in the day when Rita was just making it and she used to hang out of Nick Grimshaw's arse! Anyway, we had a fight, because she spilt chilli sauce over my heels that were specially made for me on the NHS and didn't say sorry. I pulled her weave out! She looks like a Ugly chilli sauce spilling robot bitch here!

TAYLOR SWIFT: I will say it now! Me and Taylor Swift are going to be best friends! She knows it! She once tweeted me a smiley emoji after I tweeted her a thousand times in a row saying how beautiful she looked in a pair of tweed trousers and jumper. Since then I have tweeted her thousands of times and she has tweeted back once or twice and they have made my year! I run several Taylor Swift tumblr's and have a pinterest devoted to her. When I go to Hollywood on money from the NHS, I will meet up and party with Swiftie! She is my soulmate! I mean she looks great in ANYTHING!

IGGY AZALEA: A few years back when I was on Omegle I came across Iggy on the webcam. She said she was looking for fans to help inspire her for her new video. So She found me and we chatted for like ever! I told her she should do a video based on "Clueless" because she was so Cher! She agreed and she did it! In the video, if you pause it at the right moment, you can see her winking at the camera and that wink was to me! She told me! She's so humble. Rocking the blue too!

KIM and KAYNE: I was a fan of Kim way before her days on her hit show! In fact back in the day, I once skipped school and went to France for the day! There I bumped into Kim who was just a chubby Armenian lady with a big dream. I told her to get bum implants on the NHS and head to hollywood! She took my advice and I am so proud of her. She still chats to me on MSN Messenger, as it's her only private use of chat to certain people. As for this outfit, I love it!

LADY GAGA: GaGa is still rocking it on the Red Carpet these days! Going more glam than crazy too! a Few months back I was in Pret-a-Manger getting a sandwich and she popped in, in disguise. Nobody recognised her, as she was dressed up as a homeless man, but I knew it was her. I bought her a sandwich and in return she sang me "Bad Romance" in a thick Romanian accent before shitting on the floor and getting thrown out! She is such an artist!

BEYONCE: I was always a Bey-Bey fan back when there was 16 members of Destinys Child! I was always there to support my girl. I remember seeing her play a small gig with the other 15 members in a grunge pub in Harlow. This was back when Destiny's Child were a Heavy Metal band and dressed in black and wore masks. I remember thinking "She will make it one day" and years later, a change in musical direction, shes the Queen of everything!  So proud! I was there from day one!

Charlie XCX: New on the scene, but I actually went to school with her. We shared a few classes together and, I shouldn't say this, but one time we had detention together and we shared a kiss. We are not lesbians, but we wanted to experiment you know! We swore never to pursue it and we would go on with our lives. I am happy Charlie is doing well! And I am glad she shaved off that beard and changed her name from Malcolm to Charlie. She is such a star.

So there you go! You got a look into my world! Hopefully I'll come back soon to the #Mashion World and do more. Do you want me back?
Anyway, Laters peeps! Stay Inspirational!
BG x

What did you think? Did you like BG and her thoughts? Let me know.

So there you go! Hope you enjoyed this, if not.....tough shit. Check out all the other #Mashion Posts here:

Joystiq RIP, The Elder Scrolls Online going Free to Play, Grow Home & More... | #NOTplaying #63

by
This past week or so has been a sad time for the Videogame Industry, especially for the fine folk over at Joystiq, who have not only had to deal with AOL closing down their operation, but also the loss of ex-staffer Andrew Yoon, who died tragically in a lake accident on the 30th January. Andrew was a regular contributor on the late great Weekend Confirmed Podcast and if it weren't for that show (and indeed, the Joystiq Podcast) then there's no way this show would exist. The end of an Era it most certainly is.

"The show must go on" though, as they say - and so we have a whole bunch of news for you this week, including an MMO update regarding The Elder Scrolls Online's new pay model and the ressurection of APB for current-gen consoles. We also discuss how the German ratings board are treating VR games seperately to those played on more traditional screens and let loose some info on a bunch of new games announced since we last recorded, including Ubisoft's Grow Home and some actual proper indie titles like 35mm, Virginia & White Night. All this and more on another news-packed #NOTplaying Podcast!

RIP Andrew Yoon

Joystiq is definitely closing :(

Sony sells SOE

Elder Scrolls Online going FTP March 17, Consoles get it June 9

APB ressurected for PS4/Xbone

New Nvidia 960 series GPU

Different ratings for the same games on Screens vs HMD

Journey Across an Apocalyptic Russia in “35MM”

Ubisoft are releasing a PC game next month called 'Grow Home'

Shape of the World (Official Teaser)

Virginia

White Night

Identity made it's kickstarter goal

Thoughts on the Red Carpet

So, These #Mashion and #Meauty Style Red Carpet reviews have been going on for a while now. Celebs wear dresses and I comment on them, even though I have no idea what I am saying. So, I thought this week I would look at the Red Carpet from Sunday's BAFTA Awards and try to work out what the Celebs are thinking whilst being papped on the Red Carpet.
It's easy to work out what somebody is thinking right?.......Let's see.....

ALICE EVE:  Looking Great in Black and with a beaming Smile showing off her Red Lips and Teeth. But we all know she's thinking
"Why is that man behind me sniffing the air? Did I fart? Just keep smiling, Nobody will know if I flash a bit of leg, Not Angie Leg Bomb, but bit of leg........Has the fart smell gone?"

AMY ADAMS: Love Amy Adams and she looks great here! The Ginger Haired Actress rocks the white dress look.
"If One more fucking Brit asks me if I am Nicole Fucking Kidman one more fucking time, I swear I will fucking shin kick the fuck out of someone!.....Even if it is Tom Fucking Cruise!"

HER FROM GLEE: This lady from Glee ( Diana Somebody...Quinn! I know, I watch it! ) cruises up matching the Red Carpet with her Red outfit!
" So, Let's mess with these Brit's heads! I am wearing this dress and let me put a hand in a pocket!.....WOW! This dress has a pocket! That deserves an impromptu song right?! Let's sing!.....I Got one hand in my pocket!!!!....and the other hand.........erm.......Pocket!!!"

NATALIE DORMER: The Game of Thrones Actress looks edgy and elegant right? She's standing demanding attention.
"I wonder how long it will take before people realise I am actually Babs Bunny from Looney Tunes! I mean nobody has actually asked me yet, But I am sure today will be the day!"

FELICITY JONES: I Love Felicity! She looks Great! She rocked the Red Carpet.
"So....Eddie is getting attention for a film I am in!.......Next time I wanna play the fucking guy in the wheelchair!.....Downey Jr was right in Tropic Thunder!"

SOME LADY: I don't know this lady but she looks destined for Red Carpets.
"So, maybe if I stand awkwardly people won't notice the strange angle my body is at and that my legs are in a weird position........My body hurts!

JULIANNE MOORE: The Awards Veteran rocks the Red on the Red!
"So....How many films am I nominated for tonight?...Is Meryl Streep Nominated?...She better not be!...If she is I'll fuck that bitch up! That Bafta is mine!....What film am I nominated for again?...The one where I played a crazy, downbeat Ginger? or the one where I played the manic, downbeat Ginger?"

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY: The British Actress always look great on a Red Carpet, Pregnant or Not
" Thank Fuck I am not wearing a Corset!"

LADY IN YELLOW: No idea who this is but I want to put her on top of a white iced cake and eat her
"Can you please help me move? No seriously this dress is too big for me and I can't move.....No Seriously I have been standing here for twenty minutes and nobody has noticed I can't move.......This yellow dress weighs a tonne.....There's a fucking anchor at the bottom I swear!"

PALE GINGER LADY: Again, Another lady I don't know but actually like her dress!
"I hope Christina Hendricks doesn't turn up!"

REESE WITH-OUT-HER-SPOON: I see no spoon!
"I am a fucking Academy Award winning Actress!.......remember that?! Yes! I won a fucking Oscar and I was in Legally Blonde 2!.....Think about that fuckers!.......Yeah, how did that happen?!.....I'm wearing blue now bitches!.........Take that!"
*Reese is a bitch*

ROSAMUND PIKE: The "Gone Girl" Actress always looks great! I mean Always!!
"So, Black is slimming, I am recently birthed a child, but still look good, I look too good yes? Of course I do, I am Rosamund Fucking Pike, I ooze goodness! Now take me picture and bask in the awesomeness that is Rosamund!"
