WHO WINS WHAT WINS!?!
So, The Oscars is HERE! I thought I would give my predictions for tonight's Awards and see how well I do. If you are reading this after The awards, then you can see how well I did.....or didn't.
I have watched some of the films and used my knowledge of what I have heard from "Buzz" and here are my picks.
BEST PICTURE
American Sniper
Birdman (SHOULD WIN)
Boyhood (WILL WIN)
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
Selma
The Theory of Everything
Whiplash
I LOVED Birdman, even though it is pretty pretentious, but I also LOVED Boyhood and Grand Budapest Hotel too. I just think The Academy might admire the 12 years slog Boyhood went through to get to the screen and not look dated. I kind of hope I am wrong and Birdman wins purely for it's unique, pretentious (in a good way) feel and a film you don't see every day.
BEST DIRECTOR
Wes Anderson, The Grand Budapest Hotel
Alejandro G Inarritu, Birdman
Richard Linklater, Boyhood (WILL WIN/SHOULD WIN)
Bennett Miller, Foxcatcher
Morten Tyldum, The Imitation Game
Alejandro deserves credit for his style in Birdman and any other year he'd have it in the bag without a doubt. BUT because Linklater had a lot of patience in doing a film over 12 years and he deserves praise for all that effort.
BEST ACTOR
Steve Carell, Foxcatcher
Bradley Cooper, American Sniper
Benedict Cumberbatch, The Imitation Game
Michael Keaton, Birdman (SHOULD WIN)
Eddie Redmayne, The Theory of Everything (WILL WIN)
Eddie looks like he might snatch this award from Keaton, which is a shame as both put in great performances, but Keaton really puts in a career defining one. Again, I hope I wrong and the academy give Keaton the award rather than a usual typical "Oscars" performance as a man with a disease or condition.

Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl (SHOULD WIN)
Reese Witherspoon, Wild
I fucking LOVED Rosamund Pike's performance in "Gone Girl" and think she should get ALL the awards, including best Actor! BUT.....It's Julianne's year and about time, so I guess she'll get that long awaited award.

So Lets see how well I did.....unless you read this after the awards, then how did I do?
Adam, you're really making me wanna watch Birdman. You just keep banging on about how good it is. And, I was on the fence. So, I fully blame you for knocking me off my fence. Ha.
ReplyDeleteI am so chuffed that Eddie won. 'Cos Eddie is awesome.
I haven't seen Still Alice. Definitely gonna watch it when it's released on DVD. I absolutely love Julianne Moore. But, who doesn't?!
