The Suicide Squad, What If... ?, The White Lotus, Brand New Cherry Flavour & more! | #NOTwatching

by

Who'd have thought if you gave the man behind Guardians of the Galaxy a chance to have another crack at DC's Suicide Squad, you'd end up with the greatest summer blockbuster of 2021. Or at least perhaps, the film we all deserve after such a wretched couple of years.

It's also been a cracking few weeks for the small screen, with the return of Ted Lasso, Netflix's utterly deranged Brand New Cherry Flavour and the cutting satire of The White Lotus on Sky/Now.

All this and more on another you know the score by now ENJOY! :)

We're back from a bit of summer break finally getting to enjoy the great outdoors, yet despite our galavanting we've still managed to play some games. There's also been a bit of news going on, which you will likely be well acquainted with by now, but you haven't heard what we think about it yet have you! So listen on... :)

Black Widow, Fast & Furious 9, Masters of the Universe: Revelation & more! | #NOTwatching

by

On this week's show we're back at the cinema once again, this time watching the already quite tardy, but also massively delayed Black Widow, which sees Scarlett Johansson's ill fated former assassin tackling the demons of her past in another bombastic MCU adventure.

Meanwhile in another ludicrously sprawling franchise, Vin Diesel literally shoots cars into orbit in the latest installment of the Fast & Furious franchise.

And not to be outdone, Netflix attempts to launch it's own cinematic universe on the small screen based on R L Steins 'Fear Street' novels, with an impressively gory trilogy of slasher movies set across several centuries.

All this and bunch of Loki spoilers at the end, as we get to grips with the implications of that ending on not just a second series of the show in question, but the entire future of the MCU!

Blah with.........Drag Queen Ella Veryde | Blah Blah Land Podcast | S2 E03

Blah with........Drag Queen Ella Veryde | S2 E03

Welcome (BACK!) to the podcast of "Blah Blah Land!" The podcast that celebrates people living their best life.

In this episode I was joined by the ever so fabulous and talented Ella Veryde via ZOOM! as we discussed..

- The ways to stay happy during a pandemic

- Gender Expression

- How She became a Drag Queen

- The benefits of therapy and how it should normalised in todays society.

- Maintaining that happiness

And more...

After a good few months of not podcasting, it was great to sit down and talk to Ella (aka Matt) who gave off such a warm, calm and inviting presence. She was open about her Drag journey and how times have been tough previously but a solid support network of friends can truly move you forward.

We spoke in depth about the benefits of therapy and how it should be as normalised as going to the gym. Having good Mental Health is integral to functioning on a day to day basis.

We spoke about how Drag is seen as an expression of her gender and her fluidity, something I am very much on board with. Being able to express the ways she is feeling and enhancing the gender expression is admirable.

I know Ella outside of drag and she is an inspiration and breathe of fresh air in today's world. I hope you truly enjoy it.

When was the Noughties? | Ep.1 - Millennium Bugs and Bleach | Podcast

by

When was the noughties?

Episode One - Millennium Bugs and Bleach | Podcast

The first in a series of retrospective podcasts centred around the decade that was "The Noughties!". From the year 2000 to 2009, it was a decade in between generations! The internet was as fresh as it could be alongside the rise in technology such as iPods, Phones with snake(!) and DVD players!. It was a decade of celeb culture and reality TV arrived with a new sense of who we suddenly called "celebs".

The noughties was a decade that didn't know it's place in the world and probably still doesn't. A decade that sparked a future generation and changed the landscape of a previous generation. People looked to the future and lapped up living in the new century, whilst old school attitudes were being replaced with "questioning" and "What if's". the decade of the "noughties!" was a very imperfect time in a very imperfect world.

Ok, that was deep, but I am only infatuated with this time purely because I lived it!...…and can't remember fuck all about it, without digging deep into it. A time that I spent 10 years growing up in and probably spent the majority of it working and drinking (Not at the same time of course) and just day dreaming through it...…I want to look back and wonder what the fuck happened.

In this, the very first episode, I sat down with good friend of mine Anna Johnston (AKA Miss Trout) and had a discussion about

  • The Millennium! - Partying like it's literally 1999! and seeing in a new century/millennium! A Once in a lifetime thing!
  • The Dreaded Millennium Bug! - That crazy time when we all believed the world would simply end because computers are either too smart/stupid to do anything when it turned 00:00 and everything reset......in life apparently!
  • Big Brother - The birth of the Reality TV phenomenon! - More on that in future episodes indeed!
And more! Check out this first episode, where we set the stage and start the conversation.
What do YOU remember from the "noughties"? Let me know!

Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, Before Your Eyes & More! | #NOTplaying

by

It's been fairly slim pickings on the new game front so far this year, but Sony at least had one card to play in the latest installment of Ratchet & Clank, which sees the lovable lombax and his mechanised pal span multiple realities in an adventure that truly harnesses the power of PS5.

And as if that wasn't enough, they drop a State of Play on us deep-diving into the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West, which whilst spanning both console generations, surely couldn't look more beautiful if they tried.

There's also some non-sony goodness to be had, mostly on the fighting front, with Guilty Gear Strive and the remaster of Virtua Fighter V and a fair amount more besides... Enjoy!

A Quiet Place Part 2, Nobody, Loki, Sweet Tooth & more! | #NOTwatching

by

Cinema is BACK! And with it an actual proper release schedule of blockbuster films that have been put on hold for more than a year! Chiefly among those is A Quiet Place 2, which while being completely unnecessary yet almost entirely inevitable stays true to the original's formula and expands it's universe. Also at the flicks is the Bob Odenkirk brutalfest, Nobody, which sees the small screen's favourite corrupt lawyer going to town on fools like a less beardy John Wick.

Meanwhile Loki returns, this time to the small screen in his own Disney+ show, graphic novel adaptation, Sweet Tooth lands on Netflix and Sean Bean stars in the delightlfully grim Time on the BBC.

Before all that though, we dive into the recent shock (in a good way) news that Good Omens is coming back for a second season! Hoorah!

E3 2021 inc. Starfield, Elden Ring, Avatar & more! | #NOTplaying

by

It's that time again, so buckle up babies as we go through our highlights of this year's slightly-more-organised-than-2020's-summer-of-games E3!

While this year's event may still have been virtual, fairly light on release dates and once again a sony-free zone, there were still some notable glimpses into our gaming future. Microsoft once again claiming a massive piece of the pie post their bethesda acquisition and lauding their enormous gamepass wand over nearly every game in sight, but there were also a few surprises from Ubisoft and Square in the form of some potentially lucrative licenses, namely Avatar & Guardians of the Galaxy! And of course, Devolver once again added some much needed satire & gore!

Listen on for more as well as some of the finer points not to mention a sprinkling of cautious optimism on this year's annual E3 extravaganza!

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Invincible, For All Mankind & more! | #NOTwatching

by

With the world starting to wake up again, we're sure you've noticed that TV trickle turning once more again into a stream, especially given most of the decent stuff coming from anywhere but Netflix right now!

First up we've got our second MCU show of the year, The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, which while not quite being the buddy cop thing we expected, certainly does some heavy lifting for the future of the franchise. Then there's Invincible on Amazon, putting further weight behind Rob's theory that the Pandemic was going to bring forth an animation renaissance and finally there's For All Mankind, the Apple TV+ show from Ronald D. Moore that's finally putting him back on the Sci-Fi map.

All this and whole lot more on this small-screen focussed #NOTwatching Podcast!

Monster Hunter Rise, Loop Hero, Deathloop & more! | #NOTplaying

by

As our last episode may have hinted there's a fair amount of Monster Hunter talk on this one. Rob even managed to squeeze a bit of time in with the demo so it's not a complete monologue from Marcus.

There's also been some news, mostly about inevitable covid/anti-crunch related delays, but also this years videogaming BAFTAs which for the second year running we were unable to attend, but they went ahead with anyway.

All this and a few other things that aren't Monster Hunter on most definitely not delayed #NOTplaying podcast!

Baftas/Oscars 2021, Palm Springs, Zack Snyder's Justice League & more! | #NOTwatching

by

It's awards time again and despite cinemas being closed, we've managed to catch some of the nominees and winners of this years most prestiguous ceremonies, including Riz Ahmed's star turn in Sound of Metal and the outrageously dark Promising Young Woman.

Also worthy of mention outside the torrent of awards contenders finding their way onto the various streaming platform is Andy Samberg starring Palm Springs, which puts a unique spin on the suitably popular time loop genre, which couldn't be more appropriate for the times we've found ourselves in lately.

And finally, spoilers at the ready for the ten ton 4 hour elephant in the room that is Zack Snyder's Justice League, which couldn't be a more appropriate monument to the last couple of years. I don't know when else we would have found the time to watch it!

Cobra Kai, Star Trek Lower Decks, News of the World & more! | #NOTwatching

by

On this week's show we're picking over the carcass of what's actually managed to get released in 2021 so far, including the stunning third and fully netflix backed season of Cobra Kai, the also youtube-premium originated Wayne on Amazon Prime and the second insane season of M. Night Shyamalan's Servant on Apple TV+

There's also been a couple of decent enough movies out across the various streaming platforms that would have felt equally at home of the big screen, including Amazon Prime's Gerard Butler starring disasterpiece, Greenland and Paul Greengrass's new western, News of the World starring Tom Hanks.

So have no fear dear listeners, as sad as it is, there is much more to watch on TV than the life Story of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh RIP. :'(

Next-gen VR on PS5, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2, Guilty Gear Strive & more! | #NOTplaying

by

Will might be in the midst of a between game slump, but his ears certainly pricked up upon news of Sony's next wave of VR tech, which we begrudgingly have to concede has been his call for the last 2 years or so of predictions we've run on this show.

Meanwhile Rob is utterly dismayed by the firing of Bloodlines 2 developer, Hardsuit Labs, spelling almost certain doom for the project in question, but was somewhat bouyed by the strategic depth of Gears Tactics and the sheer badassery of being Batman in Arkham VR, which he'd been putting off playing until he had enough space to swing a batarang around in.

And finally Marcus is the one landing on the cutting edge of gaming once again, with a return to his Capcom franchise of choice, for of course the Monster Hunter Rise demo landed recently. Since recording both(!) his copies of the full game have arrived, so you can be sure we'll be diving into that in more detail next time...

Until then, a quick apology for the quality of Rob's track this week. He hadn't quite gotten all the goblins out of his new headset at the time of recording and believe us when we say we paid for it when it came to editing his horribly distorted and squished contribution!

Wandavision & the future of Disney+ | #NOTwatching

by

We know it's taken a while to get an episode out this year, but we wanted to make sure we had something significant to discuss before we did. And it doesn't get much more significant than the first official MCU show on Disney+

Wandavision arrived in all it's retro-glory back in January and now the final episode has aired we can get into it spoilers an' all. There's also some chat about all the other Disney+ shows that got announced as part of THAT investor call just before Christmas.

So consider this your final warning. Fast forward to 25:00 if you want to skip the Wandavision Spoilers.

Immortals Fenyx Rising, The Medium, FFVII and more! | #NOTplaying

by

On this week's show we're talking about Ubisoft's OTHER open world game loosely based around Greek Mythology, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Bloober Team's impressively creepy looking The Medium and Marcus is now comfortably back in the arms of Final Fantasy VII after realising that he could have spent 2020 playing that instead of stressing about what a shit year it was, proving that videogames really are the best kind of distraction during any kind of apocalypse. Indiana Jones & the Fate of Stadia, Star Wars, Bond & more!

by

We ended up ranting so much on our last recording that we thought we might as well break this more news-orientated chat into it's own thing. Hardly surprising considering these very early game announcements all concern IP dating back to our childhoods: IO interactive making a Bond game? Machine games making a Indiana Jones game? And Ubisoft making an open-world single player Star Wars game? If they can manage to succeed where EA failed, then surely gamers around the world can cry out in joy. Could the circle finally be complete? Listen on to hear what we think...

And in case you were wondering... Yes. Despite the games not exactly coming thick and fast for the foreseeable, we still seem to have enough earfood for you to go fortnightly again... at least while present conditions continue and we don't have to waste time on trains when we can be playing and talking about games instead.

2021(?) Preview inc. Deathloop, Back 4 Blood, Far Cry 6 & more! | #NOTplaying

by

If this year goes to plan hopefully some of the games mentioned in this episode will come out before the end of it, as we once again cast our beady eyes over some of our most anticipated games to be released in the near future.

Obviously, with things being as they are, take all of this with an enormous dollop of salt. Some of our picks are fanciful to say the least. If Kratos swings his blades before we do this again then 2022 will have a lot to live up to...

Our favourite TV shows of 2020 inc. The Mandalorian, Gangs of London & more! | #NOTwatching

by

Once again, we're well into another year, but there's still time to go through our picks of the best TV from last year, especially in a year that was so hugely reliant on the small screen, with more streaming services than there are days in the week now - it was a small mercy in a year where entertainment options were at a premium.

Disney+ made a belated but hugely significant impact, with not one, but two seasons of the first live action TV show set in the Star Wars Universe, Gareth Evans brought his cinematic chops to bear on Sky's Gangs of London & even Apple had something to say with their impressive slate of comedy and drama.

It's quite telling that Netflix shows feature far less heavily than in recent years. So here it is, our top TV of the shambles that was 2020.

Our Favourite Games of 2020 inc. Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Final Fantasy VII remake & more! | #NOTplaying

by

It's been a rough year for most forms of media, but despite a few high profile delays and famously botched launches, for the most part videogames have thrived, with lockdown restrictions and increased free time due to homeworking, we've more time than ever before to escape into digital worlds while the real one burns around us.

So it's that time of year once more where we count through our favourite games of the year, the ones we've managed to play anyway. We also nominate a few honourable mentions that didn't quite make the cut...

Tune in next week for our most anticipated games of 2021!

Our Movies of 2020 inc. Tenet, Host, The Invisible Man & more! | #NOTwatching

by

If there's one silver lining to be had from 2020 it would be that putting together our list of favourite movies wasn't really much of a challenge this year. Whether that was due to a complete lack of films being released or the sheer quality of output from the various streaming services is arguable. Or simply the fact that certain films managed to capture the sheer despair of this horrific year so well. In any case, here are our rather quite diverse picks of 2020.
